I really can't believe that I am leaving Oz TOMORROW!! I've been in Cairns since Saturday, really really love it here! Got the bus from Townsville on Thursday to Mission Beach. It was lovely weather when we arrived so headed straight down to the beach after dumping our bags in our hostel, Absolute Backpackers, which was really nice. We were nearly landed on by a group of skydivers which was hilarious and a little scary! But we did realise afterwards that we'd sat down right by the "extreme sports" flag...probably not the best idea!! The next day we had lots of rain so we took advantage of the TV room in the hostel which had the comfiest sofas ever! A few of the group left that afternoon so the rest of us went to Scotty's (another hostel in Mission) where it was ladies night, so us girlies got free "champagne" for an hour. It was gross, but free so it didn't matter!! I left Mission Beach on Saturday afternoon to go to Cairns. On the way we stopped at a crocodile farm which was really good fun! We got to feed kangeroos, see cassowaries, pat dingos, hold baby crocs and watch feeding time for the big crocs!! Some of the group got crocodile pies so i tried a bit! It was like slimey chicken!!
In Cairns we've been so amazed at how little we've needed to spend, it's definitely the right place to end the Oz Exp when everyone has no money! We've been having free meals every evening...on Sunday we managed to have 3 dinners at 3 different places...all free!!!! First was Spag Bol, then a hot dog and then chicken satay!! It's great as we haven't needed to cook at all! I've been really lazy with cooking while in Oz...on Magnetic Island Lizzy and I both loved tuna and cooked veg wraps so had that for lunch and dinner for four days...so that's been the extent of my cooking!! hahaha!
There's isn't a beach here in Cairns and you can't swim in the sea but it really doesn't matter as there is the lagoon! - a really big pool in the centre of town which is so lovely. I've spent most of my days there, enjoying the beautiful weather! The evenings here are also good fun, most nights it's someone in the groups 'last night in Oz' so there's always an excuse to go out!! On Monday I went on a reef trip, had such a great day!! The boat left at 8am and we had a whole day of sunbathing, snorkelling, lots of food and drinks, talks and scuba diving!!!! The boat we had booked onto wasn't actually running...so we got a free upgrade!!! woohoo!!! The boat was so lovely, quite a difference from the Whitsundays experience!!! Having not done any diving i decided to try an 'Intro Scuba Experience'! I'm really glad i did it, as it was an amazing experience but don't think I'll be doing anymore diving in a hurry as found it quite terrifying!!! But we got to see lots of big fish and beautiful coral. We also got to go on a 'Semi Submersible' with a glass bottom which gave us the chance to take some underwater photos which was really cool! We saw a turtle while on the boat! For lunch there was a buffet with the most delicious food ever!!! It was sooooooooo good! They had fruit for dessert, gave us tea and cake in the afternoon AND a glass of wine!!! haha we were truely spoilt! It was a very un-backpacker day!!!
Today I'm flying to Brisbane...leaving a cloudless sky to go to torrential rain and lots of floods!! fun times!!! But only got a night there before flying to Fiji!!!  woooooo!
Loads and loads of love to you all. Miss you lots! xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hello from Watford
Hello Anna.
I have just been catching up on what you have been up to. Sounds like fun. I would definitely have given the croc meat a miss. I am a vegetarianarian -no it's not a typo - I only eat animals which are vegetarians. I really hope your enjoy the next phase of the trip as much as the last.

Exam season has swept over the Sheridans - Kasha is doing her finals, Laura A-levels and Patrick ASs. I bet that all sounds like a different world to you now!

Good luck. See you soon.
