Well we're off today! We're heading to New Orleans, Louisiana. We met some very nice people in Texas but it's time to move on. Some of the friends were humans (Brenda/Jack and Rick/Joan)and some were animals (deer and ducks). We golfed, went out to dinner and went to karaoke with them. We fed the deer and ducks every night. The female duck has made a nest beside a house across the lake
. We named the BIG duck Chuck but when Chuck started nesting, we realized he was a female but we still liked the name Chuck. Chuck's not a male. He has a nest up against a house that he sits on. She and her watchful duck friend come across the lake every evening for food. The female duck will eat right from our hands. Steve puts food on his knee and she picks it off. Good thing she doesn't have teeth. She will even stick her beak right into the popcorn bag. We'll miss them all.
Friends of ours Tom and Judy (from Florida) will be joining us in the French Quarter in New Orleans. We are looking forward to our 1 week stay in New Orleans with them. It will be very nice to see familiar people. We'll have fun.
Our last night at the island, we decided to go to the floating restaurant called The Pier. It had come recommended by several people as a place to see. It's 4 miles away. The restaurant sits on the water by itself with a big marina beside it. All seating is outdoors. We sat right beside the water and from there we could see several sizes of catfish. People feed them anything and everything. Many of the children that were there, fed them their burgers and fries. Boy did they jump for that food! Catfish is a very popular meal in Texas.
