Wine is cheaper than water and the steaks are huge
Entry 58 of 113 | show all | print this entry |
Mendoza - the heart of Argentinian wine country - a pleasant middle class city with a European flavour, known in backpacking circles for scams and a spate of robberies around the bus station and main plaza.
We tasted some great Malbecs and Shirazes from here thanks to our good friend Fabio in Ushuaia - wine expert and cook extraordinaire. We decided not to do the wine tours from Mendoza given our extensive experience of cellar doors in Australia and New Zealand!
Most of our time was spent relaxing, and embarking on the mammoth task of creating our weblog.
Here as everywhere the 2-tier pricing system for accomodation was evident - one price for locals and double for tourists. We haggled for a good hotel rate, only to find when we left that it was actually the official maximum tarriff anyway.
