Seattle and surrounds

Nathan, an old mate from university, and Heather (and Jackson and Cassidy) are our wonderful hosts in Seattle. They actually live just outside of the main city near a small country town called Snohomish. It's a ideal location with lots of green space and a lovely crisp climate.
There is no other word to describe their home other than "mansion", and what a luxury it is to step into the shower and have oodles of high pressure hotwater, after the patchy electric shower heads of Central America. We are treated like royalty including lovely meals cooked by Heather, the loan of Nathan's yellow jeep, and the use of their holiday home on the nearby island of Whidby. The trip to Whidby gives us an opportunity to test our cold-weather camp gear in readiness for the work-out it will get in Patagonia.
Jackson and Cassidy are affectionate, clever kids and we regress about 30 years playing all sorts of games with them including hide and seek, and trains (Jackson's current favourite). We think that they've inherited Nathan and Heather's musical talent since they have a such a great time singing along when I make up some songs on the guitar. Anna also gets to see downtown Seattle for the first time, and Pike Place markets reminds us both of all the great food we've been missing. Seattle has a great feel, and we both think we could live here as long as we didn't have to spend too much time commuting on the motorways. A life of mall-hopping is just not what we're cut out for.
When it's time to leave, Heather, Jackson and Cassidy see us off at the airport. We hope we'll see them again soon! A big THANKYOU to Nathan, Heather, Jackson and Cassidy. More thumbnails ...
