Left Jacksonville and started the road trip! First stop was a small town called St. Mary's in Georgia. We took a lovely brunch by the ocean and watched the ferry leave. It was slow, with a light breeze, and lots of iced tea. There was also an abnormal amount of 'neighborhood' vehicles, which is great for the environment and a nice change from the fast paced city. Took a look in one of the Art Galleries, which was basically Mecca for the Red Hat society. It was all I could do to not buy something purple for my mother.

We contined the drive up the coast and stopped at Jekyll Island, the former winter retreat for US old money - Rockefeller, Morgan, Pulitzer. It is now a lovely island with beaches and old houses. Went swimming here, which was nice, but no different than anywhere else on the Atlantic Shore. I mistakenly left my new flip flops (doh!)

The highlight of the day was going down to the docks and talking to the dolphin tour guy. We walked up right as the tour was getting ready to leave. The guy said that we could catch the next one. It was so funny because *clearly* we could have gone on the current one, but that is the way of the south - there is no need to hurry. Here is the conversation about the tour:
"So, what's included?"
"We look for dolphins"
silence, as we expected more marketing.
"We talk about the eco system, but mainly we go looking for dolphins"
It was so funny.

Unfortunately we did not feel like waiting the 4 hours for the next tour, so we settled for quoting the guy for the entire weekend. Probably isn't that funny written down, but with the drawl and beachside charm, it was hysterical.

We left my flip flops on Jekyll Island and proceeded further north. We decided to eat dinner and walk around Savannah. They have a great cobblestone river walk that we walked around and we had dinner somewhere. We tried to get in to the TV Show place (Pamela?), but she was booked.

We decided that we wanted to see what the Hiltonhead fuss was about, so we headed out to the island, arriving late at night. We got basically the last under $300 hotel room on the island, unloaded the car, and went to sleep.
