wow... Now I know why I'm not a very good blogger; if i miss a day of writing, I'm just as likely to scrap the thing altogether as I am to start up again. ... kind of reminds me of going to the gym. I'm not good at starting that up again either... You will have to keep on me, ok? If you notice I'm not writing, feel free to give me a cyber-poke of some kind. I really do want to keep track of our travels somehow. I mean, this part in Florida is no big deal, but the Semester at Sea part (to start in exactly 4 days!! whoo hoo!!) is something i really want to be able to reflect upon in later days when I have the space to do so.

Ok. so on with the story!

My mom came to stay a few days with us. She arrived at the Daytona Beach airport on Friday. Her arrival was a strange kind of turning point; everything started looking up. We had to move out of our hotel (as we only had it for 1 week) and moved into another, which turns out to be SO much nicer. The neighborhood is better (still on the beach) and the room and views are fab. We've also begun eating better. We discovered a couple fantastic restaurants. Nothing huge, just a step up from the Denny's we had breakfast at last week That said, I should mention that we've mostly been cooking in. That's the plan tonight. The menu is grilled chicken, a salad and some lovely chevre and red wine that M bought us today at the fancy "corner market". (wow... I'm digressing again!)

Barrett has been thrilled to have her here, though he's also kind of agressive with her. When she's not around, he's asking where she is. When she's trying to talk to him, he's running away. I hope that's typical 2yr old behavior, tho it's pretty typical Barrett behavior.

We went to DisneyWorld yesterday. This will sound cheesy (so forgive me), but it really was a magical experience. It was a surprise to me. I've been to amusement parks before, but something about Disney is different. I mean, they're in the business of making it a magical experience, and they do their job really well. And also, we went with a 2 year old who is ALSO in the business of making an experience like that pretty magical. It was so much fun seeing him scream at Pooh like he was a Beatle.
It was a bit of a drive to get there. about an hour and a half. On the way, we watched a skywriter putting a lot of God and Jesus talk in the sky. Here was my favorite part:

We stood in line for 30 minutes to meet some Princesses. Jasmine was first. After some cute small talk and a couple hugs, she said, "can I tell you a secret? let me whisper it in your ear" and gave him a HUGE kiss (complete with lipstick print) on the cheek. A man a few people behind us hollered, "I want to know that secret too!". After that, Barrett was beside himself. Flirting SHAMELESSLY with Belle and Sleeping Beauty. I got some cute video of that.
We ate a surprisingly delicious dinner at the Crystal Palace where Bear participated in a restaurant-wide parade with about 30 toddlers and Eeyore, Pooh, Piglet and Tigger. Nearly brought tears to my eyes watching him dance at the end of the line bouncing to "Hip Hip Hooray for the Piglet and the Pooh!" (the adventures of Winnie the Pooh was the 1st movie he ever watched...)
At the very end of a really good day, we watched the fireworks over the Disney Castle (yes, just like in the movies) which was the first time Barrett had ever seen fireworks. His jaw dropped open, and he said, "I can't believe it! (a la "Little Einsteins") Fireworks! In my Whole Life!" I'm not sure whether he was trying to convey that these were the best fireworks he'd ever seen in his whole life, or express he'd never seen anything like that in his whole life. Either way, both he and I were very pleased. Here's a pic of a worn out Little Bear Cub while waiting to get back to the parking lot:
