Today Ken slept in and I watched the wildlife on the salt marsh, read the paper, and did my email.

The salt marsh was great this morning.  High tide was early in the morning and the marsh was filled with water.  Watched an anhinga swim around and dive and then watched a great egret curiously follow the anhinga around.  The anhinga must have been stirring things up for the egret.  Watched a great blue heron eat a fish bigger than it's head.

Later in the afternoon we went out to Pinckney Island, part of the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge.  We have been out there before but today we walked further out and it was beautiful.  Had an encounter with a raptor which I believe was a broad winged hawk.  It was extremely unperturbed by our presence and let me get really close.  It never did fly away.  Here are some pics.  We also saw numerous other birds at the various ponds we visited.  It was a nice a 4+ mile walk and the weather was perfect.

This evening we went to our last free brat night at the fire pits.  The beer tasting was good too.  Mike, the tram driver, does a crafts beer tasting every Wednesday and we have enjoyed every one.  Mike was knowledgeable about beer and an all around fun and nice guy.  We have enjoyed our evenings around the campfire and the beer was good also.  We have met people from all over the US and had a good time with them. However, some of them may have been republicans.  They do seem to be all over down here.

Especially like the white fluff and berries. What's an anhinga?

An anhinga is a large waterbird with a snake like neck. Used to be called a water turkey. In the picture in the blog you can see a wood stork, which is white with a black head and an anhinga behind it with it's wings spread out to dry in the sun, which is a common pose for them
