Boat ride from hell and a lot of whiskey

Well the spur of the moment decision was a good one, but the luxury boat that we thought we would have, turned out to be...well lets put it this way...I needed lots of intoxicating liquid to be able to at least try and fall asleep, which as it happens to me so often, didnt help much anyways...
We were enjoying a few San Miguels in the boat's canteen...while playing cards...in which I was BEATING Greg at every hand!!! How many was that now Greg? Ha ha ha...
Anyways, as we were leaving, a thumping noise from the deck above raised our curiosity and we went up. Right away we were faced with a mini party hosted by the crew themselves. When they saw the 2 confused foreigners, the ship's doctor and his friends brought out some medicine...by the name of Tanduay...the killer Philipino rum...and things got moving. I think the crew was having more fun watching the 2 of us dance and actually keep up with the rest of them. Well around 3am...the bottle was empty and it was now time to sleep.
Needless to say, I woke up with the worst hangover...well woke up is a stretch...I didnt realy sleep in the first place, unlike Greg who as soon as he layed down was out cold dreaming of the Philipines. I on the other hand, listend to 300 people talk, shout, laugh...and god knows what else. That is what I would call a huge dorm room. Anyways, frustrated and feeling like absolute crap, I marched myself over to the air-con compartment and gently drifted into my dreams.
The boat pulled into the Zamboagna harbour about 2 hours after schedule and hence we missed the connecting ferry to Cebu. After an hour of wandering around this filthy port town (no, I didnt really like it here), we finaly managed to find a crappy yet super expensive room at Viva Pension. One good thing...they had satalite in the room. Since, as we quickly learned, everthing in the Philipines shuts at about 8pm...even restos...if there are any...we basically had no choice but to return to our lovely room and vegge out in front of the TV. Oh but wait...what did we eat you must ask...whats Philipino food like? Well...I hope this wont be a regular occurance and the culinary adventures will improve once we get to a nicer island...but our first taste of Philipino food was a mock McD's by the name of Jolliebee...oh how jolly it was indeed. Well one thing they do well is the Mango Caramel Sunday...what a delight!!!
Ah yes, something strange in this city...there are so many pawn shops...either that or bakeries...loads of them...one next to the other...Pawn Shop, Bakery, Pawn Shop, Bakery...etc...hmm. Tomrrow we are off to search for the beaches.
