Where I stayed
Night Sky Lodge
We woke after a blissful flap-free nights sleep in Night Sky Lodge. Such a luxury to have French linen, mammoth pillows, en-suite bathroom and generally space to manouvere. The puppy (who has subsequently been given the unfortunate name of 'Snatch' by the twins) was barking like mad pretty early so to save the other guests from being woken from their slumber prematurely Tom went out to walk him around a bit.
We decided we were going to have a bit of a lazy day to recover from the intense few days of driving that we had done so we had some breakfast, pottered around a bit then strolled into Kohukohu. It's a lovely little village with pub, post office, op shop and a couple of cafes and art galleries showcasing local artists
Once back at the lodge we cruised around reading books, sorting out the truck, doing the washing and playing with the girls. Kerrin (Stefanie's husband) caught the last ferry home from the sheep farm that he works on during the week across the water. Imogen and Blossom were so excited to see him when he finally arrived and we could see why. He pulled up in his Nissan Patrol wearing a battered old hat with a very shaggy fleece, trousers tied up with string, massive beard...he looked like Worzel Gummidge. Everything seemed to click into place and make a bit more sense once we had met him. He's a very eccentric kiwi farmer who's travelled the world a few times over and consequently has some hilarious stories to tell
