Hello all! I'm back but unfortunately, I have no really interesting stories to tell. Instead, just a few happenings of the past week.

Last week, Angélique's old boss named Chantal from her previous hotel came over for dinner with her husband and little boy Mathieu. He is just as adorable as Liam if not more because he does not cry and he has already started talking making little coos, running around the house, and waving "ahvwahh!" (for au revoir). I enjoy talking with Chantal because she seems interested in what I have to say, and unlike everyone else here, she does not talk at 100000 words a minute. Dinner itself, however, was quite the farce. Whenever people come over to the house, Angélique will cook meat. So naturally, I was pretty darn excited... until I saw what she had cooked.

The pot held some odd looking concoction that I could not identify by it's smell or appearance. It looked pretty rancid, but meat is meat, right? Cyril offered me some so I asked him what I was eating, exactly. He told me he'd let me try it THEN he'd tell me. I reluctantly accepted. Along with this mystery meat, Angélique had made spaghetti noodles. Ok, time to rant here: Angélique loves to make pasta in bulk as a side dish or dinner itself but she NEVER makes any sauce to go with it! Earlier in the week, she made macaroni noodles and served packaged smoked salmon to go with it. I am so tired of the bland pasta thing! Anyway, back to the dinner, I decided to heat up some bolognese sauce I had spied in the pantry and returned to the table with my tasty treasure. I tried the lumpy "meat" on my plate and repressed a gag. From the texture alone, my mind told me that I was eating liver. The taste, on the other hand, was retch worthy. I mean, rarely do I turn down any type of meat (with the exception of chitlin ::chitterlings for the non-Southern):: and other weird things), but this liver was just gross. After eating foie gras, any other type of liver just isn't good enough I guess. Cyril obviously hated his and offered it to Chantal's husband, who heartily accepted (weirdo). I didn't want to be rude so I sighed, mixed it into my spaghetti and finished my plate. Afterward Cyril would tell me that we were eating chicken liver. That was my first and LAST time eating chicken liver. The rest of the dinner was so-so and around 11pm I excused myself to bed.

Last Friday, Alida, her friend and I went to the movies! It was exciting because movie going is always a fun time for me. We decided on Prince of Persia: Le sable du temps at 10:10pm. Meanwhile, at Alida's apartment we killed the time watching the France-Uraguay match where I realized that watching football (soccer) is probably even more boring than watching baseball. I understand it, yes, but an hour into the game and the score remaining 0-0 drives me nuts. What's worse, the background noise of the vuvuzelas makes me want to throw the tv out of the window. Alida made a yummy dinner which I inhaled, and we headed to the theatre. 

In France, I told you everything is generally smaller. Well, same rule applies to the theatres. On a Friday night in the States, any AMC would be swarming with people waiting to see a movie. Nope, not here. A handful of people were at this cinema which apparently only had 5 theatres; a ridiculously minuscule amount compared to our 24 in America. I was reminded of the dollar theatres of my childhood: tiny, locally owned, and not too impressive. Going inside of the actual theatre was pretty odd, too. The lights were on full strength, the screen was completely blank, and worst of all, there was an awkward silence throughout the room. I wondered why everyone was so quiet when the movie hadn't even begun. I wanted to ask Alida what was up, but my whispering would have probably attracted a chorus of annoyed glares and shushes. I shrugged instead and waited in silence and within minutes, the movie began... in French. I guess I was expecting it to be in English with French subtitles, but no. Luckily for me, I understood about 90% (minus the humorous parts where everyone and I would look around, confused). All in all, I really enjoyed it. After the movie, Alida her friend and I had an intense discussion (in French) about it. I compared it to Aladdin. Alida thought it was more like Pirates of the Caribbean. Her friend agreed it was a mélange of the two. She dropped us off back at Alida's and I took Juju (my little red car) home.

Yesterday, Alida came over and spent the night. Nothing out of the usual happened. The house was just louder than usual with her boisterous energy.

Today, I really want to go to Pont-l'Abbé and eat at their McDonald's just to see how different it is. But alas, I cannot. Would you like to know why?

There is a spider hiding by my window.

Most people who know me well would sympathize in acknowledgement of the severity of my phobia. But most of you reading probably are scoffing at me for being a wimp and letting a stupid spider determine my travel plans. Well, there it is. I admit it. I am deathly afraid of spiders to the extent that is called arachnophobia. I don't know why, but when I am around spiders I become stressed and physically ill. My blood pressure increases, my heart rate increases, my stomach churns, and I go through the motions of an acute panic attack. I feel like crying, I can't sleep having seen one nearby, and I certainly will not get into a car with one in such a close proximity as I could potentially injure myself (or someone else) if one ever was in the car with me. So yes. I am imprisoned in the house because of a spider. 

Maybe Cyril will kill it for me when I get home so that I can go out tomorrow.

Yesterday, my friend's mom took a picture of this horrifying spider outside by their house and posted it to Facebook.

Now, spiders don't bother me at all, but this one seriously disturbed me. If you saw the picture, I'm pretty sure you'd die.
