My first ride from Jacksonville to Washington went smoothly enough (minus the 5 hours of nothingness and boredom in Dulles) but my transfer flight after getting to Montreal was a complete nightmare. It’s partially my fault, as this is my first time travelling alone. However, for some reason I thought that after landing in Montreal that they would bring my carry on luggage to me right after getting off the plane.
As usual, I was tragically wrong.
I ended up walking AWAY from where they’d eventually bring up the carry-on luggage 5 minutes later, and by the time I had inquired about my belongings to the bilingual information lady and run ALL the way back to where my plane landed, my carry-on was nowhere to be found.
At this point, I was getting frantic and panicky because:
1.) I had foolishly failed to TAG my luggage with my name or ANY sort of identifying information (smart, I know)
2.) The time zone had shifted and I had NO idea what the current time was.
3.) I also had no idea how to get to my connecting flight.
4.) Apparently, I also had to pick up my checked luggage from baggage claim and recheck it in with Air Canada before boarding my next flight.
Luckily, the airport staff were more than helpful about directing me to my next destination and after SPRINTING through the terminal, I found my gate… and a line of hundreds of people.
Not only do I have a hard time getting to my gate, but also the gate security line itself would prove to be the bane of my existence. The line crept forward. It was like a satanic version of a Disney World line. Tons of screaming. Not enough lines open. And I’m going to miss my plane if I don’t board soon. And out of nowhere, God shined down his light on me and an airport director called out:
"Si vous prenez vol 870 à Paris, suivez-moi! If you are on flight 870 to Paris, follow me!"
I rejoiced and cut out of the people trap to breeze past security, and run to my loading gate. People had already started boarding but there were a ton of em, so I found my place among the mass and hopped on the plane.
RELIEF!! So that’s pretty much that. I stressed out more than I ever have and everything turned out perfectly. The next instalment is more up to date and less dramatic. I haven’t been able to call anyone yet because I have a non-functioning phone and no wi-fi at the moment so don’t take it personally. I’m literally writing this in a word document because I have no internet.
Anywho, I miss everyone, but this adventure is getting better and better by the minute.
