So we started our morning early and on the road we went
. Very excited about the possibility of spotting an elephant or a giraffe or even a wildabeest. As we were driving down the highway wow, we saw an ostrich running beside us and further down the road a bunch of camels. Then it came, the moment that again, had me in tears! An ELEPHANT!!! Huge, right on the side of the road. We pulled right in front of it. Totally blew me away. I never would have thought we could get that close and we were not even in the national park yet. Further towards our destination we saw a gazillion baboons looking up at us. It was so funny.
We made our way to the campground and put our packs into our assigned tent, on the side of a mountain overlooking Lake Manyara, had our lunch and then headed to the park. Stretched up out the rooftop windows we were on the lookout for animals. Not to be dissapointed either. Monkeys and tons of antelope creatures called Impalas and then WOW I totally lost it! There was a giraffe head behind some trees!!! Speechless I smacked Sophie to look and then as I turned my head, there was one RIGHT BESIDE THE VEHICLE. Really, right there!!! Our whole day was like that. Elephants right beside us, hippos in front of us. Crazy....
So, I am going to try to load some photos of our great day which is why I must keep this short. We are in for a ten hour bus ride tomorrow to get back to the city and then to London and home!!!! Really miss home....
Hope the pics work.
Thanks for all your words everyone. You lift me up!
What an complete dream the last couple of days have been! We finally got to Arusha to look into Safaris and again things came together perfectly. Just as we were being harassed aggressively by all the street vendors to sell us merchandise and safari tours, an older gentlemen came by and told them all to scram and explained his hotel and offered to drive us. We checked out his hotel van and jumped right in. He brought us to the backpackers paradise with loads of other backpackers and safari info, beautiful food, and nice cold beer for me! Seriously great. He then informed us that he had a two day tour starting in the morning with someone and we could jump on for a cheaper price as it would save him from sending the vehicle out alone. Of course we priced out other places and eventually came back and accepted!
