Once we had finished the diving course we got the bus to Split. Seeing Split we immediately decided to leave (neither of us are that keen on built up cities) and got on the next ferry to Hvar Town on the Island of Hvar. The journey on the ferry was lovely as we sailed through the islands. It was all very picturesque. Arriving in Hvar I was sent to find accomodation as David watched England lose to Portugal on penalties in the world cup quarter final. We had a lovely apartment in the cetre of town, in the old town. The streets were all cobbled and pedestrianised, with churches and monasteries dotted about. The harbour area is lovely, you can see out to some of the other islands. I loved Hvar's atmosphere, with cafes on every street and the smell of grilled fish and seafood in the air. We spent our 3 days here wandering around, going up to the castle on the hill and looking out to the islands, and eating seafood and the most amazing steak with gorgonzola I have ever had. We went to a beach for the day, which had clear turquoise water which was warm in places, and also took a boat to Bol on the island of Brac, which was not quite as nice as Hvar, but does have a very long beach sticking out from the coast. However it poured with rain while we were in Bol, so we sat in a Cafe for a couple of hours. When we finally explored the beach it was still cloudy so was not as blue as in all the postcards, but was still nice. Heading back to Hvar we saw a dolphin in the sea, which I was very excited about! We had wanted to go to Vis, but the storm meant that the boats were not going, so we didn't get to go. It was at this point that we decided we are definitely coming back one day to visit Vis, see more of Zagreb and visit the Kornati Islands, another trip we did not have time to do.
