We arrived in Ban Lung and it reminded me of the Wild West. There was orange dust everywhere and no roads except bumpy dusty tracks. We checked in to a hotel and arranged ourselves a trip for the next day.
Ban Lung is in Ratanakiri province which has lots of waterfalls, so we spent the day visiting the waterfalls on the back of a motorbike. We got covered in dust and went bright shades of orange. The colour doesn't really come out in the photos, but you get the jist. After lunch we also visited a crater lake where we went for a swim and David pretended to be Tarzan, swinging on the vines. We were walking in the forest around the lake when I said "I hope there aren't any snakes" and David replied with "No they wouldn't be this close to the lake when people are swimming". We then turned the corner and saw a bright red and green snake in our path. Hmmm. The area was very pretty and peaceful, and we were glad we came all this way to visit.
The next day we attempted to get the bus to Stung Treng, but you can read about that in the next entry.
