We arrived in Hoi An and had lunch. It is a very small town full of old buildings so we wandered around looking at them. There is a river which was covered in little boats and a man with no teeth and a long beard waved at us. At dinner I tried the local speciality of shrimp wontons which were delicious, and noodle soup with croutons, which was also very tasty. Unfortunately David has been suffering from the stomach bug that I had so he did not have much appetite.
The next day we went to visit the Cham ruins at My Son. We had to take a jeep into the jungle. There is lots of jungle growing on the ruins, giving them an Indiana Jones look. There are lots of crumbling temples and statues which we walked around. It was very pretty with the mountains and the jungle. We took the bus to a village where we caught the boat back to Hoi An. There we saw a large orange and green snake, which the local children were throwing rocks at. We stopped off at a ship building village and a place where carpenters were making amazingly intricate wood carvings inlaid with shells, all cut by hand.
Back in town we had some cakes and fruit juice in a patisserie (bacon sandwich for David!). Dinner was delicious again; I had tiger prawns in white wine and garlic sauce and we had some fruit sorbets too. Yummy! The next day we lounged about because it was far too hot to do anything. We had a long lunch with lots of lemon juice (very popular here) and then I updated the website. We had dinner before catching the overnight bus to Nhatrang.
