On our last day of our cruise down the Yangtze we managed to lie in until 6.30 when we were woken up by terrible Chinese music. We were passing through another gorge. Being still in bed we had to watch it pass though the window of our cabin. Then we went back to sleep! The boat docked a few hours later and everyone went to look at a temple. Feeling templed-out we decided not to go and instead looked round the food stalls outside. They were selling a sweet made from honeycomb, a local speciality. I bought some hoping it would taste like a crunchie. No such luck. It tasted of ginger and chillies and got stuck in our teeth so we could taste it all day. It was horrible. I have saved the rest of the packet so that everyone at home can taste it when we return!
In the afternoon we sailed through the final gorge and David and I had the observation deck to ourselves because the Chinese appeared to have lost interest (we were the only non-Chinese on the boat). It was a wider and smaller gorge than before, but still very pretty. At the end of the gorge we docked at our final destination, Yichang. From there David and I got the bus to Wuhan where we stayed the night before getting another bus to Huang Shan.
We really enjoyed our cruise, it was very relaxing with lots of pretty scenery, and we are glad we had a private cabin after seeing the state of the lower cabin toilets as we left...
