There is no public transport though so we had to get a bus from Kuala Lumpur to Temerloh (the nearest big town) & then get a taxi from Temerloh into Tasik Bera which is in the middle of nowhere with one place to stay. Didn't have a phone no to get hold of the resort so we took a total shot in the dark & just turned up unnanounced & luckily (or unluckily!) we were the only people staying there. (Not surprising though if no-one can get hold of them eh?!)
They asked us what time we wanted dinner that 1st night & asked what we wanted & then presented us with a menu full of Malaysian delicacies all in Malaysian so we didn't have the foggiest what we were ordering
Not to worry as the guidebook said that any fish you catch the resort can cook for you that night & it's a good job Andy wasn't banking on that to fill him up either as they armed him with a tiny rod & a few small worms as bait & sent us on our way with a couple of oars & a rowing boat the following morning. That rowing lark is harder then it looks though & after trying to co-ordinate our rowing actions we settled for just rowing over to the nearest fishing hut which took us about 10 mins hard effort to get there.
Kerry wasn't the best spectator to Andy's fishing though as he hooked worms on & got a couple of little fish to bite. One fish was far too small for the bait & the hook had gone straight through it's eye which made Kerry feel a lot squeamish as Andy tried (& failed) to show her the result!
There wasn't a lot more interest shown by the fish & both Andy & Kerry fell asleep on the fishing platform! When Andy woke up he reeled his line in to find he had caught his biggest fish of the day & all while he was out for the count! Ha ha!
We've got no doubt that there are a lot bigger fish in the lake but unless you bring your own gear with you we would recommend this place not a lot!
