Kerry has been nearly surgically attached to her Thailand guidebook since we bought it & suggested breaking up our trip down south by stopping at what the book said was the popular seaside resort of Hua Hin.
Roughly about 3 hours from Bangkok on the train, we arrived at about 7pm at the train station just as it was getting dark & with no guaranteed place to stay! Look at us getting a bit risky! Ha ha! We decided to walk to a guest house that we had e-mailed the night before but who hadn't confirmed that we could stay. Easier said then done as we had no idea which way to go which isn't good with us both laden down with heavy rucksacks!
We got there eventually (about an hour after we set off) & luckily they had reserved us a room but just decided not to tell us beforehand! Charming!
Headed out for some food & there were loadsa places to choose from. We had had our fill of local delicacies in Chumphon so decided to stop at the cheapest looking western style eaterie we could find. Nice food followed followed by a not very nice bill. We only noticed as we walked out the restaurant that the place was attached to the Hilton Hotel! Ouch! & to think we had been talking about how to save money over dinner!
Stopped a total of 2 nights & we are glad it wasn't more. The place could be anywhere as there is nothing authentic Thai about it at all. English pubs & the place is absolutely crawling with hostess bars complete with the friendly ladies that work there. They were even trying to get both of us in for a drink!
The only thing we could recommend is that on the 2nd night we found a restaurant out on a jetty that overlooked the beach & it was v realxing. Until a big group of European tourists rolled up on the next table complete with local hostesses & several bottles of the local whiskey! We've never seen a place empty so fast!
