Hello!!!
Well we have finally made it on to a speedy computer, sorry we havent been in contact sooner! Right, where do we begin.......at the very beginning!
Flight was great, we were like 2 little kids on the plane. We had the choice of moveis, cd's, tv programmes and computer games to keep us entertained and Andy had pressed every button possible in the first 5 minutes whilst we were laughing our heads off!! The people around us were obviously frequent flyers as they looked at us as if we were mad!! Afer 2 meals, snacks, 1 film and several computer games later everyone was tucked up in their blankets fast asleep and we were still wide awake!! Note for next flight..... forget the wine, have a hot chocolate instead!!!
We were met by loads of crazy taxi people outside the airport so we started our bartering skills until we got the right price.... this is where the fun began....talk about a white knuckle ride!!! We are sure the white road markings are just for decoration in this country!!! We were getting our first glimpse of the city which seemed to be a complete mixture of sky scrapers and shanty towns. We got to our hotel in one piece (just) and the hotel was amazing, just like the website!
We settled in and then decided to explore China town although the Tuk Tuk drivers do everything in their power to not let you walk anywhere!! We have learned in the last few days not to believe a single word they say!! They have told us loads of things like not to walk down that road as it's "too dark"! It's Chinatown!! The street was lit up like a Christmas tree!!! They all work as a team and try and get you to go places where their mates work for comission so we ended up in the infamous Patpong on our first night!!!
Talk about being dropped in at the deep end! It was wicked though, with a massive night market and the seedy strip bars tucked away behind them! Loads of prostitutes (and lady boys!!) lined the streets........MUM - I was fascinated, it was just like a scene from Miss Saigon and you half expected a group of American GI's to be falling out of the bars!!
Anyway, after this massive culture shock we found a street stall and had a delicious meal for about a fiver
and then headed back to the hotel.
Read our next blog to find out more about our next couple of days.....
Lots of love Nic and Andy xxxxxxxxxxxx
