The DMZ
Entry 36 of 113 | show all | print this entry |
We joined a tour to the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) today which (ironically) was the scene of some of the most intense fighting during the American War (Vietnam war if you are reading this outside Vietnam!). Prior to that war, the area was setup to form a temporary boundary between North and South Vietnam.
The tour took in the Vinh Moc tunnels where civilians took shelter during the war. We also went to one of the few American military bases than hasn't understandably been totally destroyed by the local people following the end of the war. Unfortunately the various sights (or sites?) are quite long distances apart so we spent considerably more time on the coach than off it. Still, we learnt lots about a confusing period of world history.
