Memoirs of a Heather

Kyoto is has been the most varied city centre we visited so far. On one side of the river there are typically the traditional old style Japanese buildings and temples on the other the more typical, concrete clad buildings that seem to be the fashion in modern day Japan.
The older part of town is a popular place for seeing Geisha en route to their appointments. There is also a place that dresses up tourists as Maiko or Geisha. An opportunity Heather couldn't refuse. She decided to go for the Maiko (trainee Geisha) option and I spent an hour or so wandering around the town on my own before the transformation was complete. Despite a lot of white makeup she didn't look entirely Japanese, but the overall effect with the costume and wig was rather good. I was allowed to take plenty of pictures using our camera, I'll try to post one sometime.
Men are allowed to have the same treatment, but aren't allowed to leave the building to walk up and down the street as Heather did, so I didn't really think it was worth it ;-) Heather's Pedometer Stats: 20664 steps, 12.81km, 574 Kcal burnt More thumbnails ...
