Had even earlier start today - 6.45am. Headed out to Peterhof. Again this was practically razed to the ground and was rebuilt/restored. After looking through the palace (no photos allowed) we went for a stroll through the extensive parks with over 150 fountains. Saw only a fraction of these and ended up back at the palace for the highlight  of the fountains. This was the main fountain combo starting up for the day. Done at 11am each day with a background of music. Springwater is stored in an aquifer under the palace until enough pressure is built up for the fountains to work - 11am each day. The gates to the fountains is then opened and water feeds through with 1 then the others following. The fountains go through to early evening then are shut off again for the water to build up again. No pumps are used for the fountains. After Peterhof we had lunch then back to St Petersburg for another quick scenic tour, some very quick souvenir shopping and on to the Hermitage - another ex-palace. This is now the national museum with over 2 million artifacts - not all on display. One and a half hours of trotting from one crowded room to the next and we have to go find the bus as it can't make it to us due to traffic jams. Normal for Russia. Back to the boat and left St Petersburg bound for Finland.
