Wellington
They call this windy Wellington, we can see why! Although it's windy today this is calm in comparison to how windy it can get. In the late 1960's Wellington recorded the windiest spot in New Zealand's history, during their worst ever storm wind speeds reached 270 km's per hour.
Just a fleeting visit as we have been to Wellington on a previous trip. Our reason for coming down to New Zealand's capitol city was to visit some friends. We were going to book into a hotel but Angie's mum Gail, had insisted we stay at her lovely villa set high up on the hill in Kelburn, one of Wellington's older suburbs. Built of wood with a corrugated tin roof the 1920's villa had stunning views across the city towards mount Victoria.
We enjoyed a meal at the local Italian restaurant before heading down the hill to a city bar
Our late night walk back up to Gail's place was fun! Apart from it being pretty steep, we got a bit lost, with the rain pouring and the wind blowing it wasn't really the best night to take a walk! we did eventually make it back but we were soaked through to the skin! Still you have to look on the bright side it wasn't cold!

Above Wellington
. It only takes about 15 minutes to walk down from their home and about 30 to get back up! New Zealand was playing Australia in the finals of the world Rugby Union, so there were crowds of Kiwis in the bars watching the big screens and supporting their national team. Now this match should have been a walkover by the Ozzie's but as they say, never count your chickens until they have hatched. It was a brilliant game with the Kiwis holding their own very well, only to fly through the second half, beating the Ozzie's 20 / 34! Our late night walk back up to Gail's place was fun!
