God i am so lucky to be doing this!  I am now in the Caribean town on Livingston, where the Garifuna live.  These are a group of people that lived on an island, but the British took all 5,000 of them off of the island and dumped them here because they were deemed troublemakers.  Only 2,000 survived the journey and now there are many Garifuna strung along the coast.  Livingston is a ramshackle town with many run down buildings and sand streets and occupies the small piece of Caribeean coast that belongs to Guatemala.

My experience of the énchanting´Belize City left me thinking that the Caribeean culture is not for me, too macho and aggresive and so i was wondering what it would be like here.  So far everyone is really friendly and i love the place ' it has a really good vibe about it.

We have just spent 2 nights at a really cool hostel called La Perico.  It is situated in the middle of a mangrove swamp-forest and the thatched dorms are spread out and reached by walking along wooden board walks )a little tricky at night!).  This hostel is near the town of Rio Dulce and Esther and i took this kayack out for a spin on the lake, which was great fun.  While here we also took a bus to Finca Paraiso, which is a piping hot waterfall flowing over a limestone cliff!  We perched on the cliff and let the agua caliente come thundering down on us )really nice after no hot showers), then dived under overhangs and took a sauna incased by rock on one side and water on the other.  When things became a little too warm we simply swam in the cold pool of the river .  What a great day!

Now we are staying at another cool hostel )Central America seems to have loads of cool places to stay!), owned by Rusty, an English guy who went to Anglia University aswell!  We all sat down for dinner together yesterday and talked about Cambridge.  I got the drunkest i have been for a while and sang and danced with abandon!  We have kind of been travelling with Corrina )Candian) and Mika )Israeli) over the last week, which has been fun.  They have gone today to Honduras, and we follow them tomorrow.

It will be strange to be leaving Guatemala after 4 weeks here, but i am really excited about seeing a new country.  Guatemala has been completely different than i thought it would be.  For some reason i thought i would be spending alot of time on the beach, however, i have spent the entire time in the interior.  It has been a really interesting place though.  I am interested to see how Honduras is as i have heard mixed reviews.  Heading straight to the Bay Islands to scuba dive and lay in the sun!

Best go as i am missing Happy Hour, love to all xx
