Home

I couldn't finish this travelogue without thanking a few people for the last year, so here is where I make a few enemies by omitting a name or two. Forgive me if I do, but it has been a long year and so many people have come my way and it is a hard job to put it all down on paper. First of all since being home I have filled in the last three entries from Delhi, London and Manchester so scroll down to the foot of this page and you will find a link to those entries.

South Africa
To all the people I met in the Ashanti Lodge and especially on the route up the coast, Al, Fay, Sharon, Vanessa, Alison, Michela, Malena and al the Norwegian madmen we partied with and not forgetting the token Irish barman Dave. My guide for the Kruger Safari and all the people on the trip, (including the dutch couple who have not posted my SA lonely planet back yet)

NZ
Simone needs no introduction but deserves all the thanks, praise and love I can give her and more. To all the friends of hers who quickly became friends of mine in NZ. Kylie, Dawn, Darren, Dean, Kirsty, Sam and Craig, a collective known as the Northerners in our pub quiz as we were all either from the North Island, Northern England, Northern Hemisphere, or Northern Ireland. To Rachel for showing me the parts of the North Island the weather would let us.
Finally to Elvis the driver on the Kiwi experience bus and all the people I met there in Queenstown including Charlotte!

Oz
The whole collection of people I lived with in 9 Terminus St Cairns plus the occasional visitors, Nicola, Jay, Marloes, Evelyn, Adam and Emma, Nic, Clare, Immy, Cas and the staff of Travellers Oasis. Mike for the use of Mr Jangles the van down the coast to Brisbane. The staff of Telequip Pty in cairns where I worked for two months. Jim Edwards for getting me the contacts for that job, cheers Jim. Icouldn't leave Cairns without mentioning Kamey, who's kindness when I was having a rough time went beyond what I have thought of as the norm. Thanks again for that mate!
At mission beach I think I should thank the guy who took me skydiving and to a safe landing. Thanks to Jules for the pressure to jump in the first place.
To the collection of people who lived at Spring street in Sydney at one time or another either by crashing on the floor or a rent paying tenant. To Si, Sarah H, Carol, Kerry, Mandy, Sophie, Bel, Suzie, Tracie raaa and Carl. That flat made N.Y.E. 2001 special and I will remember it for a long time.
To the staff of PHC (EVOTEC) in Sydney especially the director of the company, Peter Carr who understood all the problems of backpacking and kept me employed probably longer than most employers would have given the economic climate in Oz. Thanks Peter and I appreciated it!
To Dave and Si for a xmas day TV interview we will remember for a long time
Susie and Sarah for the bed on my last two nights in Sydney and I hope you are well and enjoying the East coast. The staff of the leopard house hostel who helped when I wass robbed of $200. To Lou for the wonderful ime in Melbourne and the days at the Grand Prix, not to mention Thailand and the trips to Maya Bay etc.

S.E.Asia
Al and Gemma who persuaded me to go to the full moon party, martin and his wife for the food and lodgings at the Rainbow bungalows in Bankai.
To 'me mate Dave' for the job in Kho Phi Phi in Jordans Irish Bar, Brian for paying me to get drunk and dance every night. To all the tiger bar staff and flyer people, Pia, Leo and all the divers! Special thanks to Paul, Rye, Devon ,Katie and last but not least wee Ruth, the kick boxer from Edinburgh! Ha ha !
I guess collectively these people on Phi Phi helped make it my favourite place in Thailand and up there with the best time I have had in a year. I also made one of the best friends I have ever met in Mel, and my memories of the last night, walking round the island taking photo's of friends and saying goodbye to so many people, will be a special one for me! Cheers everyone!

India
OK Paul last thanks promise!
Also to the people at the forest hills resort in Bandipur in the Niilgirs.
To the driver Kaman and guide Mirza

General
Mum and dad for help, advice money and for just being mum and dad! My sister and family for all of the above and also the wine at xmas (our whole flat thanks you for that one).
To Kath at STA for all the help in the arrangements and so much more cheers mate!
Julie and Richard for a bed in Manchester last week and keeping the photo's etc. also the travel advice and inspiration.
To Darren, Jill, Neil, Alison, Gavin for e-mails throughout the year and taking the piss generally! To Neil's sister Alison for the phone in Oz cheers mate! Also Last but not least Jodi for ...being a mate! (With a fridge)

So that's it folks, you'll be glad to hear there will be no more annoying e-mails telling you I have updated this thing. I am home and will leave most of you alone now! Except for when I add photo's! you might want to put a few faces to names.
Thanks for reading and if anyone has any queries or questions about the places I have been drop me a line!
C ya AB
