The events of the past few days have shocked everyone and all of a sudden, travelling and enjoying yourself seems to take a back seat! We were watching the tragedy unfold live on CNN and as everyone will agree, words do not exsist to describe the scene! A good friend of mine, Gavin has just returned from the US and he described the sights including the World Trade Centre as fantastic. You could read these in a similar travelogue to this one on Travelpod.com. The point being as we watched the buildings fall and people dying before our eyes, everyone in the room had a story to tell, or a person who has just been there, or a family member who lives there, and we could have continued all night. Sad was not the word and we thanked the lord Cairns in The tropics has little to stand as a international terrorist target. OR SO WE THOUGHT! We woke on wednesday to find the news that ex-president Clinton was visiting Port Douglas, about 40km's north of Cairns, has been labelled a major target and therefore had an immediate 20km seclusion zone imposed around him! No-one in and no-one out of Port Douglas! No problem we thought he will leave soon and join the other politicians in Washington. Not so fast! He has to fly out of Cairns International and who's house is in the Flight path??? OURS! Anyway so that you can all sleep easier, he left last night in a special US Airforce jet safely! So as has been the case in Cairns, my travelogue entry is not a normal one, this time in tragic circumstances. Lets hope the right decisions are made by the people in power and my next entry can have a less somber tone! Hope this finds you all well and safe. Keep in touch as always, Gavin! i think all i can say is Welcome Home mate!! c ya AB
