We also booked our next bus tickets which is always a bit of an ordeal. For some reason bus companies donīt like to sell tickets that are not going from the station that particular booth is situated in. This is ridiculous of course because how are you supposed to book any journeys on from the one you book out of the cityŋ As we wanted to book 3 tickets we had to do some asking and searching for a company that would sell us a ticket. But it was sorted.
The bus station is a beautiful building but the area is a dump. There are shanty towns behind it, it is dirty and today, was flooded by the rain. It is a contrast to the the massive Mariot hotel just across the square
We sheltered from the rain in the station for a bit (thinking of all those sunny days that we have been stuck on a bus all day) before donning our macs and setting off on the walking tour.
One of the first ports of call after San Martins Square was the Palacio Paz and Palacio San Martin. Both lovely buildings, the latter of which ised to be a private residence - incrddible given its size and location in the centre of the city. Next was the Galeroas Pacifico mall where we took shelter again. However my favourite building was the bright pink one with the balcony that Evita did her speech from. This is the official residence of the President, the Casa Posada. Unfortunately this was near the end of the day and I hadnīt the energy to go in. We may go back.
On the main square there is a large goverment office building with a couple of posters hanging up outside. One is attached. It roughly translates as 'soverignity always ours.' Mmmmm.......
Tonight we went to see a Tango show, it was in the basement of the oldest and most famous cafe in the city, Cafe Tortoni. It is a lovely place and very atmospheric but we were rather packed in. There was not a single Argentinian in the place! The show was massively over the top and you could tell these guys were dancers and not actors...for me it could have had more Tango in and less padding. But what there was was very good.I didnīt recognise many of the moves but this may have been because everything is exaggerated in show Tango.
