Today marks the end of our stay in Montevideo. We have finally finished our spanish course and we can say with reasonable confidence that we are now ever so very slightly better at spanish than before. We have met some quality people during our 4 weeks here:

Wolfgang - German legend who has been a student at the school for longer than time itself (about a year) and hence the fella is half decent at spanish. His carnel love of meet is ridiculous, the man lives off protein, and he will be remembered for sharing his vast knowledge of the meat industry with us. Cheers for sharing the secret of the best churvito in Montevideo - Casitanas.

Tom - American. But the good kind. The man has been studying spanish for 10 years but still sounds like a spanish audio book played at 1/4 speed when he talks (my kind of man). Certainly dedicated to the cause as he took 2 years worth of holidays in one go and came here for 6 weeks to learn spanish. The fact that he wants Hugh Grant to be the next James Bond is cause for greater concern. Ott also won the is gary oldman english or american debate!

Juan - Cracking teacher. Speaks english better than i do (not sure if that is hard or not). Also very worldly - knew the exact location of various english cities, but not Cas incredibly (and that was soon remedied), and loads more stuff. His comic timing should also be admired - his portrail of the average Uruguayan driving whilst smoking, talking on the phone, holding a mate (the drink and not a friend by the way) and holding a flask was brilliant. Vemos
Virginia - mmmmm yes sii (deep)

Leticia - who talks about all kinds of random things in class. We spent a long time trying to work out the film 'sunrise to sunset' which is the literal translation of 'from dusk til dawn'

Marie jose - such a jolly little thing such a bad teacher...couldn't understand anything she said, couldn't read her writing, she asked us questions that were imposible to answer in any language...especially when she kept asking more incomprehesible questions over the top when you are trying to get something out!

The people in my class (ott) texas tessa who brought pen and paper to every lesson but not to take notes but to draw round her hand whilst the teacher is asking her a question! Helen who disagreed with everything her fellow german moritz would say about germany...and Moritz who at least was the same age as me so not everyone was doodling.

Margo - 'La Director'. We know that she speaks english, german, dutch and spanish and she may even speak more that we don't know about. So obviously we hate her. Cheers for organising everything.

Victoria - Cheers for keeping things on track when teachers dont turn up, builders knock holes in walls etc, even if we couldnt understand a word you were saying most of the time.

Andrea - Cheers for putting up with our rubbishness and insulting the national dance that is the tango. 'Perfecto....... mmmm, its ok, its ok' 'Pah, pah, pah - ethe ebasic esteps.'

The Lavadero guys - Cheers for washing our clothes and making them smell quality. There can be no 2 guys more in touch with their femenine side: massive blokes who wash and iron all day long whilst listening to Celine Deon. Love it. Boy do those guys smell nice!

Montevideo - Cheers for being a laid back city with brilliantly friendly Uruguasssssshhhhhhos. Granted you may not have the sexiness of Rio, the history of London, the charisma of Buenos Aires, the looks of Sydney but you have lovely yoghurt in sachets and dulce leche which evens the scales. Thanks.
