Just a quick update to say we are safely back off the houseboat; Andy will tell all in a different entry which we will probably post from our next main destination as the internet access is painfully slow here, and we have forgotten the lead to upload any photos, so you would miss out on the unmissable site of a Punting Palin!

We decided this morning to head back to the Government Rest House where we had pitched up prior to the houseboat outing  This is just the weirdest place to stay, very "Army" and formal, no-one there seems to quite know why the odd Western backpacker turns up amidst the uniformed personnel and odd-shaped, mismatched Raj-era furniture and demands a room for the night, but we do and are welcomed with some bemusement and shown to our odd-shaped, mismatched garrison, the size of a small house, where we rattle around wondering why we are here.

They do a good brekkie though, toast and melted boiled sweet being the norm, so we're going to rest up tonight and tomorrow we head for Allepey; for no real reason other than it's sort of in the right direction, and we can go via ferry, thus avoiding the usual train station traumas.  We're booked on the 10.30am tourist ferry tomorrow morning, super-cheap which is why the hour-trip takes 8 hours in true Indian style, but we are regarding it as an adventure, and it's no hardship we figure to sit up on deck watching the beautiful scenery float past, topping up the old tan.  We get in at 6.30pm and have accommodation sorted, then it'll be on to Cochin on Saturday where we should find plenty to do, and be able to update t'pod in less frustrating circumstances!

Catch you then, love to all,

Em and Andy
