After the boat finally left Penang, 45 minutes late, tickets and timetables dont seem to mean anything in Southeast Asia, we arrived at our next port of call, Langkawi. We'd heard some nice things about the island, and upon arriving at the resort we weren't disappointed. The beach was absoulutely beautiful, the best we'd seen so far on our travels, coconut trees lining the beach and the sea a lovely shade of blue.

We found a reasonably priced room at a hostel 2 minutes walk from the beach, so we dumped our backpacks and headed for the beach, it was great to just lie back and soak up the sun again. That was pretty much it for the rest of the day, bliss :-)
We decided to book an island hopping boat trip for 9.30 the next morning, more on that later.
That night we were treated to an amazing electrical storm, the thunder was so loud and the lightning lit up the sky so much that for a split second it seemed like the middle if the day. We sat on the beachfront until the rain started coming down, and when it rains in Southeast Asia you really have to run for cover, it was bouncing off the ground.

The next morning we were awoken by the sound of somebody knocking on our door, we'd slept in and the organiser of the boat trip had come to get us. We weren't going to rush about, so we changed to go the following morning. That day was spent very much the same as the previous, which wasn't disappointing at all, we needed a couple of days relaxation after all the travelling we'd been doing.

What a great time we had the next day on the island hopping trip, we went to some other beautiful beaches, to an island with a freshwater lake where we went swimming, and stopped off at another island which was home to a massive colony of Brown Eagles. Seeing 40 or 50 eagles in the sky and swooping down to the water to catch fish was breathtaking, we could've stayed there watching that all day.
After returning to Langkawi Island, we just relaxed on the beach again soaking up the sun attempting to regain the tans we'd lost after leaving Cairns. Then it was a quiet night as we were back on the road, or rather water, early the next morning for our next destination of Satun in Thailand, yet another new country on our amazing world trip :-)
