The Wild Coast
15/04/05 Before leaving Durban we took a short drive through the city then headed to an area called the Valley of 1000 Hills. It is a tourist route taking you through lots of little valleys, full of Zulu villages. We then started heading down the coast, stopping off for the night in Port Shepstone, and continuing on the next day to Coffee Bay on the Wild Coast. 16/04/05 "Lying in the heart of the Wild Coast with easy access from the N2 (main coast road), Coffee Bay is a popular stop. Surrounded by rolling hills with three rivers flowing through the valleys into the sea, miles of white beaches backed by cliffs and all the space in the world, its setting is idyllic. Unspoilt and undeveloped, it has an easy feeling and miles of open space in which to catch up with yourself and the universe. Life here is rural and living is simple. All you need is time..."
We spent two relaxing days here. On the first day we lay on the beautiful Coffee Bay beach, we weren't there long before the locals discovered us, we were offered beaded necklaces for sale, then we were serenaded by three young girls, who sang beautifully then reminded us that nothing is for free, luckily we had a left over fight bag, complete with luminous green socks which surprisingly they were very happy with. On our second day we went on a guided 9km walk along the coast to the 'hole in the wall'. We really enjoyed the walk and the scenery was fantastic. (see photos) More thumbnails ...
