Heading to the West coast via Buller Gorge

We had a long drive today to Westport on the NW coast, stopping off a Buller Gorge where there is the 2nd longest swing bridge in NZ. It has started to rain quite heavily but it eased off long enough for us to cross the bridge and take a short walk on the other side of the gorge. The walk passed the epicentre of the 1929 earthquake, and remnants of the area's gold mining activity.
We continued on to Westport where we stopped for the night at a picnic area by the beach. Westport was completely dead but we did manage to find a very nice cafe/bar with internet access, where we spent a few hours. More thumbnails ...
