Where I stayed
This has been a very interesting day to say the least. The driver who took me to the hotel yesterday told me wait at the lobby at 830 am this am and he will pick me up for the Sacred Valley tour. I waited from 815 am til 9am and no one showed up. So I asked the front desk lady who told me he will come shortly. So I waited patiently until 940 am and still no one showed up. I talk to front desk lady who called tour office but it was closed, it´s SUNDAY !!! How interesting. I started to have this fear that no one will show up for me big trek to Lares tomorrow as well and I will be stuck in this town for 8 days !!! I tried not to be worried and left the hotel for a Museum tour.
I walked north of the city to the Precolumbian Art Museum. This place is filled with priceless aritifacts from all the different cultures that developed up and down Peru
Next I went to a different section of town called San Blas just north of Plaza de Armas after a long climb up the steps. There is a beautiful waterfall and some small shops and a very nice view of the city from up here. The narrow alley way leading up to this area are paved in cobble stone and it really feels like I am tracing the steps of ancient Incas. For lunch, I found a small vegetarian restaurant along the way called El Arbol, their daily special called MENU, include salad or soup, main entry and dessert, very good for only 10.5 Nuevo soles ($3.5). A good tip about finding tasty budget restaurant is to go several blocks from city center and these hall in the wall places are just great.
I returned to my hotel to talk to the front desk to find out if my tour tomorrow will still happen. The front desk lady was very nice, she called Jose and told me that he will meet up with me at 6 pm this afternoon. I had plans of visiting inside the Qorikancha but I was too tired ? Altitude sickness? and I ended up taking a very long and SWEET nap for 2 and half hours
I went down to the lobby at around 550 pm and I am shocked the Latin American radio station was blasting my Favorite tune ¨Apologize¨ by One Republic !!!! Wow !!! Jose showed up around 610 pm and apologized profusely about what happened. He apperently arrived at my hotel 10 minutes after I went to the museum. He told me it was his fault that instead of him coming, he sent a lady to do the job but she FORGOT . Well, he then explained as part of compensation I can get a free lunch or free message when I return. Guess what I chose??? Yeah the Message !!! He then go on the explained in detail about tomorrow´s Lares Trek day by day itinary. I am getting quite excited.
I went to another hole in the wall place up the street from my hotel. They offered me their Andian Special of potato and Alpaca steak. I also tried the corn syrup dessert. They were very tasty. The only down side was there was a cucaracha in my dessert which I thought was a corn husk initially. The server quickly changed it for me. I also enjoyed a nice chat with these two nice Canadian girls who are also ding the Lares trek in 2 days. We traded our travel stories, it was fun.
I won´t have internet access for at least 3 days because the Lares Trek will be camping and trekking. Stay tuned for some amazing pictures yet to come......
