After the visit to the Island, I got on the bus from Paracas to Ica. At the station I was chatting to two Americans I kept bumping into on route from Lima, we fiqured out that we were both going to Huacachina and onto Arequipa, so I tagged along with them for this part of th trip.

We arrived into Ica, had lunch and got a taxi to Huacachina, famous for its huge sandunes and Oasis town in the center. After swimming around in the pool in the midst of the huge dunes we went on a sand buggy and sandboarding tour.

We jumped into this massive offroad looking go-kart which sounded like a rocket when it fired up. As the thing started moving it felt like you were on a rocket, it was like being on a rollercoaster! We flew off into the sandunes scaling the sides of them like a scateboarder in a halfpipe. It was pretty intense feeling, we carried on death difying manovers in the desert then came to a stop at the top of a large dune.

We all go out and were each handed a "sandboard" to go down the dunes on. There were two methods to get down; 1. lieing down, facefirst and 2. stood up like a snowboard..I decided on trying the first one to check how it was before standing up. It very quite strange experience, you fly down with no rear perspective of speed because all you can see is sand in front of you, which doesnt really look as though its moving but you do feel the air rushing past your face very fast, very odd but quite a thrill a the same time.

We carried on being thrashed around in the buggy and stopping at higher and higher dunes to come down. I did try the snowboarding stance once, but after 3 years of not being on a snowboard, I just kept falling over. We did this until the sun set over the dunes, which added another element of excitement, being at dusk with minimul light and being driven really fast, I couldnt see anything so I dont know how the driver was getting on.

After this finishd we all emptied out the colosal amout of sand out of our pockets, shoes, hair, ears, cameras..everything was covered in it.
