Yesterday we went for a walk around Miraflores. It seemed very safe; there were police on every block and in every park - I think specifically to ensure that Miraflores is safe for visitors. It was very pleasant wandering around. We went to Parque Kennedy, Parque del Amor, the Indian Market (an area of stalls selling all sorts of handicrafts) and Larco Mar, a shopping and entertainment complex built into the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

It was cloudy and overcast most of the day, and I made the classic mistake of thinking I couldn't get burnt. Now I have an even redder neck and forehead than in Madrid!

Breakfast is included at the place we're staying and is served in our room; we just have to call down and they bring it up. It consists of a selection of bread rolls, cheese, jam, bananas, fruit juice and tea. Good way to start the day.

Last night we again ventured to Wong to buy some food for dinner. Language is still a bit of a problem (people always ask extra questions that I can't understand - stick to the script!) but we seem to be getting by okay.

Today we were planning to take a bus tour to central Lima, but we have read bad things about the tour so we might just arrange for a taxi to take us in the main tourist area for a few hours. I expect the area around Plaza Major to be relatively safe, just with the risk of pickpockets. Will update on that tomorrow!
