We kicked of this morning by having a run (me) and sleeping a bit longer (Bec), before a visit to Trader Joe's - we are hooked - their prepackaged salads are a perfect lunch for the road. Today was the first day that we actually hit the interstates, so we made pretty good time most of the way at 65mph. Bec took the chance to have a bit of a sleep whilst we were traversing Upstate New York
We got off the interstate prior to getting to Harrisburg, and wove our what through a few small towns. Bec wonder if the GPS had a setting in it somewhere for visiting every crack street in the States because again we seemed to find the dodgy end of town. We did go through a nice little town just out of Lancaster called Lititz that looked very nice.
Found a motel in Lancaster that is right on the edge of town, away from the busy roads, and we keep seeing the Amish ride by in their horse and buggies. Very nice to watch. We wanted to have an Amish experience for dinner, so we found out where the local Amish restaurants were and went to one. Such a good meal, and when other Amish are eating there, then I'd say it's got to be pretty good. Home cooking at it's finest.
Another thing about Lancaster, the dominant smell in the air is the smell of horse shit. From the buggy horses dropping it all the time, to the natural fertilizer that the Amish use, the air is thick with dung. That's country living for you.
We have decided to do two nights here and have booked a tour of the Amish community for Monday Morning first thing. We have Monday and Tuesday already booked in Washington, and Friday booked for Savannah so we have a bit of driving to do Wednesday through to Friday.
