Where I stayed
For lunch we went to the famous Fergburger a local institution and a heaving place which makes the most ridiculously sized and delicious burgers you have ever seen
After looking at mountain bikes and considering doing some helibiking getting a helicopter up a mountain and then riding down (only it is too expensive and we have spent so much money in NZ it is just getting ridiculous). From lack of any form of decision making with regard to what big ticket activity to get stuck in to we decided to do take the Gondola to the top of the very steep Queenstown Hill. Wondering if skydiving had cured my fear of heights I found out that it definitely hadn’t. I was scared to death and got whipped into so much of a panic I couldn’t even stand on the lookout platform, Eggsy took most of the photos and the views of the mountains and the lake were literally Remarkable. We did do some luge riding up there though which was pretty good fun actually and I suppose another form of transport to add to our list. In the wind the chair lift to the top of the luge track was even scarier and unfortunately for me I was shouting and screaming all the way up.
When we got back to town we had missed the last Shotover Jet river ride of the day so we decided to get stuck into a game of Frisbee golf in Queenstown Gardens. This is a proper sport here with a full course with a par for each whole. While we pulled out our cheapest of the cheap Frisbee the other people were using professional discs and throwing for miles. Our Frisbee just catches the wind and goes off in another direction. It is fair to say we didn’t play for too long but it is an interesting and novel concept, but taken very, very seriously by some (some even had special bags to keep their Frisbee in)
We sat around in the sun in the gardens for a while before heading back up the road to the campsite. We were going to have a night out tonight as the Halloween parties are in full swing but we thought better of it. I think the knowledge that we are running out of money so quickly is starting to hit home. Never mind we are going to go and blow another small fortune jet boating tomorrow. So much for the budget – 15 quid a day is getting us nowhere here – but you do find that you can easily get sucked in to the whole adrenaline junkie psyche you just want to keep doing more, GET THEE TO REHAB, and out of this town before we bankrupt ourselves.
