We made an early start this morning after our relatively long sleep. Andrew had lost a few pairs of ear plugs in the night, god knows where, so hadn't had the greatest sleep added to by the ribs still hurting but I on the other hand (with my amazing skill which allows me to sleep through most things) felt quite refreshed.  We had breakfast again on the porch in the hammock, this time omelettes all round then headed down for an early start on the beach.  We claimed our favourite spot again even though being earlier the sea was lapping at our feet we just hoped that it was heading out rather than in.

Lucky for us it was heading out so we spent most of the day on the beach again finishing yet more books which means yet another visit to the book exchange when we get back to Kuta.  My favourite tree did of course have its disadvantages, things would drop on me occasionally, sometimes they were buds which was fine, sometimes more unsavoury things like ants of the red variety that bite.  However, it did beat paying for a bed further up the beach where it was really busy.  I even found a hermit crab dawdling across the sand so occupied myself with taking pictures of him for a while. Andrew braved it as he always does and soaked up the sun in his quest to relinquish Cristiano Ronaldo of his 'Mahogany Man’ title.

We had a bottle of coke on the beach for lunch as neither of us felt that hungry then went back to the hut and Andrew did so well to endure watching Sex and the City: The Movie without moaning too much.  All this because we have downloaded the second one so I thought it a good idea that he watched the first to give him a heads up as he hadn’t seen any of the series, why would he?  I think he only threw a few v signs at the screen throughout so I would call that a success.  We took a walk down to the internet shop that charges extortionate rates but needs must and we wanted to check e-mails and we found out that our friends Jen and Mark have had a little boy called Ethan Mark so massive congratulations to them – we can’t wait to meet him when we eventually get home.

We took a long walk almost to the top of the island nearly being run over by the horses and carts that ply the beach front – Andrew is sure that each and every one is evil and has it in for him – he says that they ‘look at him funny’.  We came back safe in the knowledge that there was nowhere else on the island that sold cheaper beers than we had seen (yes there was a purpose to our mission) apart from one dead place that sold them in happy hour for 23,000 Rupiah.  This was a bit bitter sweet as we had been avoiding drinking beer for the past few days due to the budget bashing nature of this place but at least he wouldn’t make me trudge to the ends of the Island just to save a few Rupiah so I was happy.

On the way back to the hut all the Muslims in the village where tucking in to their post sunset feast.  If fasting all day isn’t hard enough I can’t imagine what it must be like in the extreme heat when you aren’t even allowed to have a sip of water, it shows amazing strength of character, especially for most people on the island who work in the service industry preparing and serving food for all the tourists.  Respect where respect is due.
