The bus we thought would arrive at about 4:30 or 06:30am arrived at 01:30 so we were a bit rushed getting off to catch our bags being thrown out of the window. In the rush in the dark bus (it didn’t have any lights on) I left my reading glasses, the one thing that I had as protection against any Erica rant. Whenever she saw me in my glasses (bought the day before we came away from Matalan) even when cross with me she would say “awwww look at you in your glasses”. I now feel naked as I lost my shades on a bus in Nam so I have no protection.
Anyway, there was a lovely old man stood waiting for us in the rain to meet us to make sure we found the hotel. We were shown to our hotel and were soon asleep in bed. We woke to find a warm and rainy day. It had tipped it down the night before so there was water everywhere. We met the guys from the hotel and agreed to go on a two day trek to Lake Inle some 30 odd miles away. Erica was still a little hesitant but after Sapa she is Miss Outdoors. We wandered around Kalaw which is essentially a beautiful small hillside town. We went to the market and picked up a few gifts for the trek, not too much just about 24 notebooks, 30 pencils, 30 pens, 15 toothbrushes and about 5 toothpastes. Having only one small rucksack it was already half full with gifts so we could pretty much only just fit in our rain jackets and some sun cream.
We chilled out in the room for most of the afternoon and watched about eight episodes of Entourage which we adore.  Feeling hungry in the late afternoon we headed out down the hill to ‘Sam Restaurant’ and had a feast of Potato and Cashew nut curry, vegetable curry chapatti and rice washed down with two Star colas.  Having over eaten we walked home in the dark and got an early night to prepare us for the next two days of trekking.
