Where I stayed
We walked along Benjamin Franklin Parkway which was lined with international flags on both sides. Benjamin Franklin Parkway is the main road for Philadelphia's museum district and it lead the way to Philadelphia Museum of Art to where, of course, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) ran up the steps on the last leg of his famous training scene. Andrew did a cheesy re-enactment of this run (so did many other tourists) and we walked down to the Rocky statue to take a picture with the bronze Rocky statue at the bottom of the steps
Another brisk walk back down Benjamin Franklin Parkway before a stop at Subway for lunch and back to the hostel to pick up our bags. We walked back into Chinatown with our bags to catch the 3 hour bus to Washington DC. We boarded just after 3pm and made our way to the capital.
When we arrived in DC Andrew asked a fellow passenger where the 'Tube’ was and he got a funny look, he then tried ‘Metro’ and the lady then corrected him saying ‘Oh you mean the subway?’ Anyway we got there but we found it amusing. She was really nice and walked us to the metro.
We arrived at our hostel. The hostel is a bit weird and does not feel like a backpacker hostel but more like a temporary housing place for the neighbourhood – very strange. We walked to the local ‘Safeway’ to do some grocery shopping, cooked some stir fry for dinner and then went to bed.
Big day exploring the capital tomorrow – how exciting!
