When I arrived at Ping'An, I was blown away by the beauty of the landscape. The local Dong tribe, or Minority Poeple as the Beijing calls them, has litterally carved the mountains to turn them into rice fields. The mountains look like giant stairways on which water flows very smoothly, keeping those rice fields wet at all time.
The Dongs are very welcoming and the way they dress adds to the spectacle. Their clothes are always colored very brightly. Each small village has its own tribe and each tribe dresses very distinctively. One can tell which tribe a local belongs to just by looking at their hair style and their clothes.
Ping'An is about Corn, Chili Pepper and the all wood homes the Dongs live in. They lay the chili peppers si it can dry. And then they crush it into some kind of paste/sauce that's used in most food they make. The food here is as spicy as the best Indian curry. That was a total surprise for me. Everything is very hot and spicy but still good enough. As for the corn, they suspend it around the house for it to dry, adding to the color frenzy.
On a funny note, my room was kind of expensive but it didn't matter since I made all the money back playing Texas Hold'em poker that night. Hahaha.
Andre.
