Guangzhou is the first place where English didn't take me too far. My taxi driver could not understand where I wanted to go. I showed him a map, in English of course, which he couldn't read, a Police officer was yelling at us like crazy cause we were blocking the traffic. So we took off anyway. Much to my surprise, and probably by luck, he dropped me off close to where I was going.

This is the most hot and humid place I've been to so far. Just walking up the streets was enough to get all sweaty. A miserable heat. I'll remember Guangzhou for all those exotic animals that were up for sale everywhere. I was definitely not accustomed to that yet.

At this point I have enough of the big cities, I'm heading out to the country side where the real authentic Chinese are. Thanks to the good advice of my new friend Marc I bought a Mandarin phrase book. I'll learn the basics otherwise I'm afraid it will be pretty tough to get by in the rural areas. I must learn if I want to eat three times a day. It's as simple as that. It will sure be a lot of fun!

Andre.
