Another overnight train got us to Paris, early and exhausted. This time we shared our train compartment with a mother and 2 small children so we all went to bed early.
We did a highlights of Paris self-guided tour to keep ourselves busy until we could check in. Picked up our Musee Passes, and then wandered past the Eiffel Tower, walked along the Seine, the Champs Elysees, and then finally to our shared triple room at the Leo Lagrange. It was nice to have our own space again instead of a shared dorm-style room. Also nice to have a locking door so we could safely leave our stuff behind. While at the Champs Elysees, Pearl made a LONG detour to Louis Vuitton to buy a gift for someone. Linda and I proceeded to continue our sight seeing and were offered money to buy stuff at Louis Vuitton for a couple who had bought the maximum amount allowed. We both thought this was crazy and declined.
August 4 saw us at the Louvre, the Place de la Concorde, and Sacre Couer. On the steps up to the Basilica we saw a group of Spaniards singing "Englishman in New York".
August 5 was dedicated to Notre Dame and one of the walking tours from Rick Steve's Paris book (highly recommended). This took us through the Latin Quarter and eventually to Sainte Chapelle. Afterward we saw the Concierge, Les Invalides (from the outside only), and the Rodin Museum (where I fell in love with The Kiss). That night we splurged on a fancy dinner and then went to the Arc de Triumphe. Linda and Pearl climbed it, but I had come down with a terrible cold and could barely breathe so I just waited at the bottom and people-watched.
