In Xela we went to see the hot springs. We took a combination of chicken bus and the back of a pickup for the last 20 minutes up into the mountains. We were at quite a high altitude. High enough that we were into the clouds. It was really nice and relaxing. Great way to relieve muscle tension.
That night I started feeling a bit sick. I felt sick during the night but in the morning I decided to continue on in order not to hold the group up in our travels. Unfortunately I became feverish on the bus and in Antigua we had to stop and stay a couple nights. I have never been so sick in my life, I'll spare you the details. Lets just say it wasn't pretty.
Then we headed north and stopped in the cutest little hippy haven. The vegetarian food was amazing and I got a chance to do a tour of Semuc Champey. We went caving into these deep caves using candle light to guide us. It was great although it's a bit hard swiming with a candle held over your head. It was amazing.
This morning we got up at 3:30 to hike to Tikal where we climbed temple four in time to see the sunrise. It was absolutely amazing to see the sunrise over the top of the jungle with the other pyramids peaking out of the canopy. We then spent the morning exploring the ruins which were fantastic. In tikal you're actually allowed to freely climb and explore the site.
We're now across the border in Belize. We'll be here for 3 days on our way to Honduras.
