Now that I have work possibilities I've spent more time relaxing and just enjoying the London environment.
On Friday, Carly and I headed down to watch the Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace. It was cold, you would think Australians would dress really warmly since they are not used to the cold but instead they refuse to wear anything but flip flops. I stopped wearing sandals last week as I finally decided that it was too cold. Anyway, we stood outside for two hours freezing but at least now I can say that I've seen it. It was good but I was expecting red coats. They played an Elton John song and I thought that was really funny.
On Friday night, a couple friends and I decided to head down to a bar where another friend of ours works as a bartender. I have never been frisked like that at the door anywhere. Apparently there's a bit of a gang problem. We didn't like the music so we will not be returning.
Saturday I went to see a movie. I can't believe how expensive movies are here. Since I'm not earning pounds yet I'm still converting everything to my home currency and 18 dollars for a matinee is steep. I saw Borat which is a comedy starring an English comedian. Same guy who does Ali G, if anyone knows who that is. It was pretty funny at parts but other parts were just disturbing. I don;t think I'm going to get the image of a 300 pound naked man out of my head any time soon.
Last night we had planned to go to 'Guy Fawkes Night' which involves bonfires and lots of fireworks. Unfortunately we didn't plan it very well and decided there was not way we were going to make it on time. We headed down to the London Eye instead which is really pretty at night. We did see some fireworks behind the Parliament buildings but were not in the best place for viewing. We decided to just go for a drink instead.
I'm just relaxing today. May see if I can make some progress in finding a flat. Start my new temp job tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting a paycheque.
