What in the world is happening to James?
Entry 88 of 88 | show all | print this entry |
Hi friends, We are blogging again! It feels really strange to be doing it from home. We wanted to update you about how James is doing health-wise. We went to a great rheumatologist today down here in Southern California and he confirmed the diagnosis we thought he had, which is called reactive arthritis. It is a temporary condition that is his body's response to some kind of bacteria that made him sick a couple of weeks before the arthritis kicked in (extremely likely it was from something he ate). It feels like it's been a long process of trying to identify, understand, and organize all of his symptoms he's had in the past month but we feel so fortunate to have had great medical care in Thailand and now here in California. James is taking strong anti-inflammatory medications and had a few other blood tests and will check in with the rheumatologist in a couple of weeks. There is no set time that we expect James to be better based on the research we've done about this condition. It could take a few more weeks or several months for his joints to return to normalcy and for him to feel able to be his active, athletic self again! There is a small chance he could experience this reactive arthritis again in his life, but we pray that is not so! Please keep praying for him as we know how powerful prayer has been in this journey of ours. James has been in remarkably good spirits over this past month despite having to just take it easy and rest WAY more then he is used to! He is not in much pain so that is great, but he just feels stiff and uncomfortable a lot of the time. We trust that we are in good hands and know that he is much loved by so many of you. Thanks! By the way, we are really glad to be home again. It is so incredible to be around our families and be reconnecting with friends again. We are so happy!!!
