After our huge meal the night before, we decided to have a lie in and skip breakfast altogether. When we eventually emerged, I nipped down the road to pick up our anti-malaria tablets for Central and South America and Dan booked us on to the Amtrak to San Diego for that afternoon.

After a 2 hour trip into Downtown LA (comprising one bus and three trains) we eventually made it to Union Station - and I thought commuting in London was bad! Five minutes later we were sitting on the Amtrak, having been told that we could make the earlier train if we hurried. Luckily a little guy with a luggage truck took pity on me trying to run with my rucksack (which I swear is getting heavier every day) and we were delivered to the door of the train, which he made wait for us!

Luckily it didn´t take us too long to find a suitable hotel for the night once we had pulled in to Santa Fe Station in San Diego. However, it was already getting dark and by the time we´d checked in and sorted out our bus journey for the following day, all we wanted to do was eat and go to bed. We both felt that it was a huge shame as we liked the feel of the city and would have been keen to have time to see a bit of it!

Our chosen restaurant that evening was ´The Yard House´. Whilst the food was good, what really appealed to Dan were the 106 beers on tap! It was like watching a small child in a sweet shop, as he carefully decided which one to try - completely spoilt for choice and grinning from ear to ear! As he eventually opted for the special ´six-pack´ option, which gave him a selection of six different beers to try, he was in his element - his only regret was that he didn´t have Dickie D to share them with!

The following day was spent on a Greyhound bus to Tucson. Nine hours and three junk food meals later, we arrived at our destination. Unfortunately after an hour of wandering around an eerily deserted Tucson, we still hadn´t found a suitable hotel in which to spend our final night in the USA. Our last resort was to try one of the motels advertised at the bus station. When we asked the taxi driver to take us there, however, he warned us against the place (which apparently has a rather unsavoury clientele!) So on his advice, we eventually got checked in at ´Motel Six´ which turned out to be a pretty good choice.

We didn't have much time to enjoy our room though, as the alarm went off at 6am the following morning and we dragged ourselves out of bed to begin our trip into Mexico.
