Ao Nang is a really pretty little beach resort about 20km away from Krabi - it offered a much needed respite from the hustle and bustle of Patong, but is a little more lively than Kamala with a good choice of little restaurants and bars.
Unfortunately though we never really got to experience the beach, as it rained most of the time we were there. After catching up on our sleep in the really comfortable surroundings of the Lavinia Guesthouse (after our night at the fishing village), we decided to go for a walk around the headland to the next bay to go exploring in the caves. However, before long we were caught in the heaviest rain we'd ever seen. The friendly guesthouse staff had kindly lent us a couple of brollies before we left, but these offered no protection against the onslaught of the driving rain. By the time we got back to base we both looked like drowned rats.
With nothing left to do, the afternoon was spent with a couple of beers watching satellite tv. After another good meal at the Italian run guesthouse (the pasta was most welcome after days of nothing but rice and noodles), we braved the rain and took a brief walk along the beach front.
We left the next morning for Nakhon Si Thammarat, but couldn't help wishing that the weather had been a little bit kinder to us so that we could have enjoyed Ao Nang to its fullest.
