A Sad Goodbye
Entry 21 of 62 | show all | print this entry |
Saying Goodbye is always hard. I´m really not that good at it. I left my Bolivian home today, heading down South to celebrate the holidays with Neeltje. I said goodbye to the kids I was working with at the nursery... went to visit some of their homes and drop of their Christmas photos. A couple of the girls made it very difficult to leave, and convinced me to stay and watch a movie with them all afternoon.
The only touristy thing I managed to do in Sucre during my last few days was ride a quad around one of the parks!
In Potosi we visited the Casa Real de la Moneda, where we went on a 2 hour spanish guided tour. This museum is apparently Potosi´s main attraction, though I think it doesn´t even come close to crawling through mines and blowing up dynamite, but each to their own I suppose. The museum was originally built to control the minting of colonial coins, but is now a museum displaying the giant wooden machinery used to press the silver and the ancient coins, as well as religous art, Bolivia´s first locomotive, and many other artifcats. Unfortunately you have to pay double the entrance fee if you want to take photos, so I haven´t any pictures to share, but it is a beautiful old building (um... restored of course, apart from one room) and I would recommend visiting the museum, if you have time to kill in Potosi. I would have preffered to go the hot springs just outside of the city.
Where I stayed:
Koala Den
