It actually rained this morning, something which rarely happens here. I was walking to the Info cent re past all the massive military ship to do my usual thing and collect brochures of all kinds. The man there assured me it would clear by 12, and it did - it became very warm indeed. Even though I had made friend i wasn't used to spending my time with anyone yet, so I got an all day trolley pass and just travelled around on the little trolleys taking in the sights of San Diego. As you come out of the posh Gas Lamp Quarter the housing changes drastically, with a lot of one story older housing on what looked like industrial sites. The hills were quite high, and it fascinated me that there was so many houses built on the hills in such a small place. The closer you get to Mexico the more there were. I got off at the end of the ride in a town called Santee which was just basically a retail area. I hadn't felt comfortable enough to get off elsewhere, as my pale skin makes me stick out like a tourist so much.
I returned on the Trolley which actually showed me how big San Diego was. I enjoy getting on the transport and seeing what else is out there, and how other people live. The Lonely Planet can't tell you that.
Back at the Hostel they having an evening meal for $5 which is prepared by Sake (Lovely Japanese guy) but tonight it was sushi, and I didn't like it. Can't say I've never tried it though. I hung around in the lounge speaking to some people who were on a conference, but they did bore me silly. I didn't notice that Suzannah and some other people had gone out though she had invited me earlier so I retired to bed, for fear of falling asleep by boredom.
By the way, while waiting to get on the trolley I met a man from Bedford who was asking me for directions. Small world.
Also, it has been lovely to meet some European people who have something intelligent to say, can speak another language and are passionate about music. Made me feel a bit like I hadn't done much with mylife. Every night a lot of people sit on the stairs in the hostel with instruments and ad lib, I didn't join in though for fear of breaking the windows. I seem to have lost my singing voice since I have been a grown up.
